About Us

Pilbara Health Futures is a student-led initiative created to support and inspire young people in the Pilbara who are interested in careers in healthcare.

We know that coming from a rural or remote background can make big dreams feel far away. This platform exists to show that those dreams are not only possible—they’re needed. By sharing real stories, practical advice, and local pathways into healthcare, we aim to help the next generation of rural health professionals start their journey with confidence.

Whether you're thinking about medicine, nursing, allied health, or community-based roles, this space is for you.

Pilbara Health Futures Founder

Caitlin McEwen

Hi, I’m Caitlin, the founder of Pilbara Health Futures. I grew up in a farming community in rural Saskatchewan, Canada—in a town of fewer than 2,000 people—where I learned the value of hard work, community, and looking out for others.

After becoming a qualified Radiation Therapist, I moved to Port Hedland in 2020. While working there, I studied for the GAMSAT and was accepted into UWA’s Medical School, where I’m now in my final year of study.

Living and working in remote Australia showed me firsthand how vital rural healthcare is—and how powerful it is when people from those communities become part of the system. I started Pilbara Health Futures because I’m passionate about the Pilbara, and I want to see more local students take up careers in healthcare, knowing they belong and they are needed.

This project is about creating that first spark of belief—and backing it with practical tools and guidance.
